Under the US DOT order 2009-9-20 (05Oct09), the following baggage regulations apply for travel to/from the USA:
- The carrier whose designator code is identified on the first flight segment of your itinerary is usually the carrier whose baggage rules will apply to the entire journey, provided also that this carrier has traffic rights to/from the U.S. and has filed general rules tariffs with DOT.
- In case of itineraries where the first flight is operated on a code-share basis, the rules of the carrier, acting as the Marketing Carrier on the first flight apply, in most cases, to the entire journey, provided the Marketing Carrier has economy rights to operate direct flights to/from the U.S. and has filed general rules tariffs with DOT.
